How do i get him back, if only as a friend?

ooo... tough one. I might go with being straight forward and blunt. Tell him how you feel and maybe he'll spill his heart out to you. Don't be too desperate. That would sell your dignity. Also make sure he knows what you want. Be careful though, if what everyone else said was true, you might get hurt. Watch out for that!
