Bad. I've found that relationships which begin as hookups usually don't go too far emotionally. The guy feels no need to commit because he's getting and good company, but still has the freedom to do whatever and get it from other people if he so chooses. What he said was not a good sign, it was avoidance and an attempt to let you down easy.
