Can I get some inside info on visiting Ellis Island and Ground Zero? We are visiting next year............?

Have never been to New York, taking a road trip to the east, Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero are two of the focal points of the trip. Where do we park, what city do we go to, will we need to take the subway, how much is it, etc. Any info you have, or advice, is appreciated!
