Pavements shared with cyclists - where should the signs be?
Usually a shared cycle/walkway will have a solid white line separating the two lanes as a cost cutting measure some councils only show these lines at junctions and crossing points. As on the road if you follow the keep left rule when walking you should be safe.I for one are loath to see more and more signs erected .I have seen on one twenty meter stretch of road/cycleway/footpath twenty seven signs giving information to all users .Usually in addition to signposts a cycle sign is painted on the floor and an end sign when it finishes.I have only recently returned to cycling and it is not only cyclists who are arrogant I have been effectively blocked from ping by three women standing talking all with pushchairs. They could have easily moved to one side but did not move out of the way ,despite seeing me,until I had stopped and said ''excuse me'' .As for legal requirements I believe all councils comply at the very least to the legal minimum of signage as they would leave themselves open for compensation claims should an accident occur.
